take an object for a walk

we were given the task of completing an 'object on a walk' project, where we choose one object that has no characters or faces, and photograph it out and about on a journey. i chose a red spade, which is the same spade i used when i went to the beach with my family when i was younger.

photograms

we went in the darkroom and used the enlargers to create photograms. we put an a5 piece of photo paper onto the stage of the enlarger, and put objects on top of the paper. then, we exposed the paper to the enlarger's light for 8 seconds. however, for the first image i did things differently. i put down my first set of objects, exposed them for 4 seconds, then changed the objects around, adding new ones and changing the position of existing ones. after that, i exposed it for another 4 seconds, so that the items overlap.

photogram scans

in the darkroom, after using the enlargers, i put my image into the developer for a minimum of 1.5mins, swapped it over to the stop solution for 30 seconds, changed it to the fix solution for a further minute, then put it in the wash compartment for 10mins but it's able to be left longer. after that, i put the images on the drying rack and picked them up the next day. then, i used a photocopier to scan in the images, and used photoshop to individually crop them.

photogram x object blending developments

i decided to add a sepia tone when editing my object photos fro photogram blending, to add a different vibe to the photos, making them feel more old-school. with this edited object photo, i added my darkroom photograms over the top of them and used the blending options in photoshop to create these developed photograms.
